Surgical/Autopsy Pathology: Pathologic examination of surgical tissue specimens constitutes the major focus of our anatomic pathology department. We provide a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation of all tissue specimens with a state-of-the-art histology laboratory providing on-site diagnostic testing including immunohistochemistry, enzyme histochemistry and routine histochemistry. Additional ancillary testing in the areas of flow cytometry, as well as cytogenetic and molecular testing is available at the pathologist’s discretion through our partnering reference laboratories.

Our pathology department has expertise in the areas of gastrointestinal pathology, dermatopathology, hematopathology and general surgical pathology. Medical autopsies services are provided to inpatients of St. Alexius Medical Center and by individual arrangement with our staff pathologists. Forensic autopsy cases are referred to the North Dakota State Medical Examiners Office.

Cytopathology: The cytopathology laboratory at Pathology Consultants, PC is a full service, College of American Pathologists accredited, cytopathology laboratory that provides gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology services. Our staff of pathologists, which includes subspecialty certification in cytopathology, in combination with our experienced cytotechnologists provides state-of-the-art diagnostic cytology services. We offer interpretation of ThinPrep Pap as well as conventional Pap smear interpretation with use of the ThinPrep Cytyc Imaging System as an adjunct to ThinPrep screening. We offer HPV ancillary testing using the FDA approved, APTIMA HPV Assay technique. We offer complementary electronic entry, result return, billing supply orders and data repository services.

Hematopathology: Pathologic examination of all hematolymphoid tissue specimens is performed including peripheral blood smear evaluation, bone marrow examination and diagnostic interpretation of lymph node and spleen specimens. Peripheral smear evaluation includes recommendations for additional laboratory testing of patients with morphologic and quantitative peripheral blood abnormalities. Ancillary testing is offered through our reference laboratory partners including flow cytometry, cytogenetic/FISH and molecular testing with correlation of findings to the morphologic features in the form of a final diagnosis.

Clinical Laboratory Consultation: Pathologists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for consultation relating to laboratory test interpretation, transfusion medicine, microbiologic and MIC interpretation, coagulation testing, etc. On-site consultation visits are available for quality control, quality assurance, standard laboratory procedures, equipment evaluation and capital equipment acquisitions, instrumentation calibration and new regulation interpretation and compliance. We offer contract pathology coverage to hospitals and clinic laboratories. Laboratory directorships and blood bank technical supervisory services are also available by arrangement.
